Beirut: Ceremony to spotlight on domestic violence against women

Violence in various fields is a wide spread problem all over the world. The worst kind of violence is violence at home against women and children. All governments should realize the problem and act against it, e.g. with publishing harder laws and should pay attention to its enforcement.
These days an event was hold to bring the problem of domestic violence in mind. The campaign “No to domestic violence” which was organized by the national coalition of legislation the defense of women against domestic violence was hold in Beirut, in the UNESCO hall.
Under the motto “Join the fight to stop violence against women” the event was hold and many important stars from Politics came in support of the very emotional and important problem. The event was filled with experiences of women who survived domestic violence and talked about their pain and torments they were faced with.
The audience showed its solicitousness with the victims in giving standing ovations. It was a very depressing atmosphere that illustrated the necessity of laws against this violence. Especially women in the Arabic and Islamic societies suffer from domestic violence but many of them do not dare to make a report.
During the evening the Lebanese minister of social affairs addressed to the audience that he is convinced that a new law protecting the women will be pass very soon in the parliament. He excused because he couldn`t find words to solace the victims but he promised to fight for the new law protecting the women. He also underlined that there must not be any differences between women and men in front of the law.
The ceremony ended with the drama “a story of departure” that deals with the suffering of Palestinian women and their bad situation in the society.
The event was a great success and women got a new hope for the future. Although it would be a long way to free women from domestic violence the ceremony was a first and important step in the wright direction.
