Christmas time is near and many people enjoy the month around the Christmas Eve. From the first Advent people go to the Christmas market and feast on the special sweets. It is for many Christians a time of contemplation and calm. Christmas time means also time for the family and friends. You come together, listen to music or sing by yourselves and have meals together.
Although the Arabic world is known as Islamic there are also many Arabic Christians in the countries and all over the world. They are also listening to Christmas songs and this is a good reason for Arabic stars to sing special Christmas songs in Arabic.
The very famous Lebanese singer Fairouz for example translated famous songs such as “Jingle Bells” and “Silent Night, Holy Night” into Arabic. Fairouz was born on 21st November 1935 in Djabal al-Arz in Lebanon. From her birthplace she moved to Beirut where she lives with her family. She became a pioneer of a new music movement in Lebanon and is known as the “mother of the nation”.
Her first performance was in 1957 and after that she became very famous in a very short time. She improved her music over the years and after the Lebanese Civil War and the death of her husband her music was more and more influenced by Latin American rhythms. She is a Christian but she is beloved not only by Christians but also by Muslims all over the Arabic country and the world.
Her Christmas songs are really affecting and emotional and it is a great pleasure to listen to them or sing with her songs, especially when you are involved in the Arabic language. To get an imagination of her songs you will find “Silent Night, Holy Night” here in Arabic and you also find a link to youtube where you can listen to it.
Besides Fairouz there is another famous Arabic singer, singing Christmas songs in Arabic and other languages as English and French: Majida el Roumi. She is also a Lebanese star, born on 13th December 1956 in Kfarshima. Her career started in the seventies when she took part in a talent show in Lebanon.
