Syrian Film Festivals

The International Film Festival in Damascus became an important festival not only for the capital but also for the whole country. You can see several Arabic and foreign films in several cinemas of Damascus every year in October.

Whoever is interested in the Arabic culture and films should book a travel to Damascus at this time. The International Film Festival is not only a very famous event among the tourists but also among the Syrians, especially the youth.

The International Film Festival in Damascus got a fixed place in the year and it is great to recognize the pleasure and interest of many people, Arabs or foreigners, who take part in the festival and show great interest in watching new, interesting films.

The festival is also very important for Syria to achieve an increasing number of visitors to the event and to the country. Syria is e very fantastic country with many important historical places and a very fascinating countryside. Unfortunately there is almost everywhere in the western world a negative sight on Syria because of its politics and the support of terroristic groups.

So the festival is a very great possibility to give foreigners another picture of the country besides the politics. At the present time there is just the film festival in Damascus that is known, but hopefully the ministry of cultural affairs will expand the festival to other cities.

In Aleppo there was presented a festival for short films and documentations. In the future it would be very great to set this event as a fixed point in the year, some months after the international film festival in Damascus, e.g. in June.

Introducing the Aleppo festival as an annual event would help to increase the cultural awareness of the people and could bring more intellectual visitors to Syria.
